Bright Lights Shine on the NSW Cricket Centre
Cricket Central at Sydney Olympic Park is the spectacular new home of NSW Cricket. Cox Architecture and Buildcorp have delivered a cutting-edge high-performance sports facility, with Danpal insulated daylighting solutions used extensively throughout. Numerous technical challenges for the translucent façade areas were overcome during design development – including extreme impact resistance requirements, complete glare prevention and the achievement of large unbroken spans with minimal framing.
But the most critical aspect for large contemporary public buildings is appropriate fire safety design strategies. Danpal offered extensive fire engineering consultation to the project design team as well as Fire and Rescue NSW to ensure all stakeholders were comfortable with the agreed fire engineering strategy.
Fire retardant opal-coloured multiwall panels combined with various types of aluminium framing according to span requirements demonstrated compliance with all aspects of the highly demanding technical brief after an exhaustive review process.
Given the corrosive environment near the swimming pool, it was also necessary to develop a bespoke solution that could span five and half metres with no exposed aluminium framing at all. The result was practical and cost effective, as well as being visually stunning.
Selected areas around the public café building were fabricated off-site to reduce on-site construction time. This made it easier for the project to meet completion timeframes that were potentially jeopardised by delays related to COVID and availability of structural steel.
At Danpal, we take great pride in delivering visually amazing and cost-effective solutions to even the most technically challenging of architectural projects. To learn more about our extensive aesthetic and compliance capabilities, click here.
