Beautiful and Practical all day and night at Sydney Swans HQ

The new Sydney Swans HQ and Community Centre provides an elite new home for the AFL Men’s and Women’s teams along with the NSW Swifts Netball Club. It forms part of an exciting new entertainment, sporting, and community precinct revitalisation in Moore Park. Populous specialise in sporting venue design and recognise the value of maximising natural daylight in such facilities.

Their vision for the netball indoor training facility to have abundant diffused daylight through large open spans on 3 sides of the court was one that Danpal were proud to help them realise. By integrating an LED lighting system inside the composite translucent façade system, these parts of the building now also provide a radiant streetscape feature at night. The process of managing environmental, structural, weatherproofing and fire compliance challenges on large public buildings has obviously become increasingly challenging. A condensed construction timeframe disrupted by inclement weather and COVID challenges also added to the project complexity for the team at FDC Construction and Fitout. Fortunately, the use of Danpal’s pre-fabricated translucent cassette system was able to resolve all technical challenges while also enabling rapid installation times. The internal and external cassette faces had a matte finish to disperse the LED lighting, while also guaranteeing visual comfort by eliminating reflected or transmitted glare. Colour selection was carefully considered to maximise internal light levels as well as guaranteeing thermal comfort.

Extensive discussions with the project team throughout the design and construction process ensured a great result for all parties in challenging circumstances.
