Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Presentations

Continuing professional development (CPD) presentations are educational and specifically written to develop an architect’s professional skills or knowledge. CPD in architecture enables architects to stay updated without having to stretch themselves thin across a vast range of expected knowledge topics. Formal CPD points are to be obtained by all practicing architects. In QLD, NSW, VIC, SA, WA and TAS, architects must provide a formal declaration of the CPD attained in the prior 12 months. Points can be obtained by attending CPD presentations, such as those approved by the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA). CPD presentations must be accredited to ensure they satisfy strict criteria regarding their educational content.

Formal vs Informal Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The primary difference between formal and informal CPD presentations is an assessment element. Formal CPD includes an assessment and provide CPD Points which counts toward an architect’s professional development, while informal does not. Most states and territories have minimum standards and regulations for assessment materials.
