Connection is at the core of a thriving community. Our relationship to the setting of our work and home life can directly impact the quality of our life within that space. The way in which we move these places sets precedent for our overall flow as a society; freedom to move and explore keeps us enlivened and inspired, whilst congestion can manifest a trapped physiological response.

As Australia’s largest road infrastructure project, WestConnex aims to solve both problems at once. Whilst connecting communities to create stronger societies, it is also easing the immense congestion of Sydney and getting its people moving again.

As part of the WestConnex Bexley Operations Centre, Danpal was engaged to design and supply a series of translucent 9-metre-high feature walls for the substation of the WestConnex Bexley Operations Centre that were spectacularly illuminated by LED lighting.

Working closely with Hassell and Gartner Rose, Danpal designed and supplied a bespoke polycarbonate wall system, illuminated by concealed LED lighting.

Working closely with Hassell architecture firm, Danpal designed and supplied a polycarbonate wall system that could deliver the highest quality and visual impact, whilst remaining within the strict budget that is synonymous with major infrastructure projects.

The system was engineered for quick and easy installation, ensuring over 200 square metres per day could be installed to support the tight construction timeframe required by Gartner Rose.

The final design utilised 16mm thick 1040mm wide Opal Danpalon panels secured with structural 150mm connectors and a customised removable base plate. Illuminated from within by LED lighting, the new building stands as a robust architectural feature of its own against the deep night skies.

Danpal is committed to building an inspiring world for tomorrow’s communities.

Through collaboration, creativity and a commitment to quality, Danpal successfully delivered a balance of beauty, functionality and economic engineering for the WestConnex Bexley Operations Centre.

The WestConnex Bexley Operations Centre is a glowing example of Danpal’s vision of supporting architectural innovation within major infrastructure projects. We believe that inspired design can change the world; when communities harness the power of the collective, the boundaries of possibility get pushed to new heights. In the quest for innovation, we are honoured to continue taking on projects that transform our work and living environments for the better.
